About Amanda
I came to Chile for the first time in May 1995. I didn’t see the sun until the last day of my six-week stay because it rained the whole time, and never thought I would come back. But I have, several times, and I still go through those moments where I think, why in the world am I here?
My view of Chile is biased by my identity: I am an American woman in my early 30s, I am married, I am a mom of small kids, and I work for a Christian mission. My view of Chile is also influenced by my experiences: In the States, I am in the middle class, but here I am assumed to be rich; I live in Santiago, more specifically in Las Condes, although I have spent a couple of years in Concepción; I’ve never been to any part of Chile north of Santiago.
My degree is in Social Work, which means I am trained to link people with the resources they need for the moment they are currently experiencing. If you are currently experiencing “being a fish out of water”, “living in a glass bowl”, or “excited for a new challenge”, I think you will enjoy my blog.
